In recording, the most important piece of equipment is the microphone; you must have a good microphone in order to achieve a good recording. It is essential to preserve the delicate signal captured by a microphone and then sends it to the next stage of the recording process. This is where a cable shows its true quality and importance. The better the cable is, the more of the original signal will end up on a recording. This is a highly contestable point amongst many, however we at Gekko Cables find it to be true.
All of our microphone cables are made of three conductors, each insulated in cotton, twisted together and then protected by a tinned copper shield with more then 95% coverage. The shield is connected only at the output end of the cable. This way the signal and ground conductors are from the same material and no sound travels trough the shield. The cable jacket is made of a flexible PVC. The connectors used to terminate the cables are heavy-duty Switchcraft XLRs with silver plated copper contacts.
Speaker Cables
Cables used to connect instrument amplifiers to loudspeakers are as important as they are in Hi-Fi systems. Our professional speaker cable range is made from high-quality solid core conductors providing clear and dynamic sound. Like the rest of our cables, these are handmade by us.
Steve Grimmett, lead vocalist for Grim Reaper, attests to the quality of Gekko Cables:
“We first used these cables on tour in the States, we were borrowing backline at each show so we didn’t know what we were going to get on a daily basis, of course the individuals set up their gear for us, we changed the speaker cables and immediately the sound became crisp and you could hear more tones in the sound plus we would have to turn the sound down as it became louder, I’m guessing that the better the cable the more you get out of it, suffice to say the support bands asked what we had done to their gear we told them it was down to the speaker cables. Nuff said”.
